The weather forecast for Sunday 13th June is warm and sunny and everything is ready for an exciting 2021 REX PET HOTEL Flying Fortress Stages.
Much of the pre-event discussion has been around all the Covid-19 mitigation procedures that have been put in place so that the event can happen. It has been a huge undertaking to put on the event again this year and its success will be judged by the actions and reactions of all those taking part – the Competitors and Support Crew, Marshals and Officials – rather than which crew eventually comes out on top.
That said, the 10th running of this popular event has attracted a full entry of 70 very competitive crews, (and many Reserves who have sadly not been able to get a run). They will be led away by last year’s winners Kevin Proctor / Patrick Walsh [Fiesta S2000T] who are probably the favourites to repeat their win again this year. However, the competition is tough with most of the crews seeded in the top 10 having won similar events in the past. They include David Longfellow / Daniel Ward (Subaru Impreza) who won this event in 2018 and 2019, Steve Pawson / Graham Wride (Subaru Impreza) who won the event at Melbourne just 2 weeks ago, and David McMullan / Marc Melhuish (Mitsubishi Evo) who were the victors at Fulbeck in early May. However, the nimble R5 ‘s could be the ideal car for the tight and twisty parts of the venue. It is all about avoiding the kerbs!
There have been several occasions when a well driven two-wheel drive car can still dominate on this event as was the case in 2017 when Steve & Cathy Booth, seeded at 5, were leading for most of the event in their Mk 1 Escort. Good luck to all the competitors especially our sponsors Nigel and Louise in the Rex Pet Hotel Subaru (car 23).
The event results are being produced by Matthew Atkinson, (rallies.info) and live results will be available on-line throughout the day at www.rallies.info/res.php?e=412
Again, a reminder that the venue is part of a Private Estate and that the Flying Fortress Stages is strictly a non-spectator event. No wristband = No access.
We hope everyone will have have an enjoyable and safe event.
